skimmer help

i have been given a tmc 400 skimmer iv set it up on my tank on my tank but before i plug it in do i need to fill the skimmer with tank water or will it fill when i plug it in. manythanks

When you plug it in the pump will fill it up. but you might need to add some extra saltwater to the tank when it fills.

I'm not familiar with that skimmer but there should be a way to adjust the water level in the skimmer body. It sounds like you are getting too much water into the skimmer and not enough coming out. According to the website I just looked at there should be a valve on supply line going into the skimmer to adjust the water flow. Try and adjust the water level. You will probably want the water level just below the neck of the skimmer cup.
