Won't that cause my lid to pop off with the pressure?

I've made skimmer cups drain into a collection chamber in the past, does yours have that option? Or do you know how to if it doesn't?

On the collection cup, does there look like there is a place you could connect a drain tube?

No there's a hole in the lid as a pressure relief thing I was told to drill more holes so all the pressure is dissolved evenly

That's an option that may just work for you. Go gentle drilling it, to much pressure on the drill can crack the plastic. Just let the bit do the work and you'll be fine
