Skimmer intake placement?

I have a reef octopus 300f hob skimmer. I was wondering if the intake box should have the teeth on top partially out of the water? I have the box fully submerged and it's making about a 1/3rd of a cup every 3 days. Have looked around and can't seem to find an answer.

Yes, the teeth need to be partially out of water. The are there to let water in and keep critters (snails, etc.) out. I found a good picture of one set up at Octopus BH-300F

Thanks for the reply. Wouldn't having the outlet pointed at the intake partially defeat the purpose of the skimmer? I mean wouldn't it just recirculate the water it just put out? Will put it out of water partially.

I would turn the output tube in the opposite direction.
