Skimmer Problem Proposed solution?

My recirculating skimmer is supplied by a utility pump that I believe is far to much flow. I can't adjust the skimmer down far enoeph and am producing tons of wet wet foam filling the cup with liquid. I have a maxijet 1200 that I can switch out. The skimmer is a SWC OCT for up to a 160 gal. tank and I have it on a 72 gal. bow front. Any thoughts on this solution. Will the MJ 1200 just give me the oposite problem or should it work?

I would call the manufacturer, and if you can't get them, the vendor. An Mj1200 sounds awful small to supply a skimmer that size.
