Hi guys i have a quick question.. I have a tank with 50lbs live rock in a 55 gallon and an aqua c remora protien skimmer... So do I really need the Fluval 404 anymore or is there enough on the rocks and such with the skimmer it is no longer a factor??

What kind of liverock is it (e.g. Fiji) and what volume (approximately) does it take up? ½ the tank? A third? ... From what you've said already though. I'd get a few more lbs. LR (about 15 to 25, I think) and ditch the Fluval. If it has foam in it, it's just trapping particles and creating nitrate. That's what I think, I'd definitely get more opinions though. Hope this helps ya.

You could pull any filter media out and just use it for water flow.
