Spider Crab Vs. Filter Pads

Hey All,
I have a touch tank with a couple resident spider crabs and I've gone through practically my entire supply of black reusable filters with these guys. I come in every morning and they have literally ripped chunks out of it. The pictures are a little unclear but the blue fixture is where the square filter rests, and if you can make it out there is a huge chunk missing from the material. Has anyone else come across this issue? Are there better adept filter blocks on the market?
