Stand for a 50 gallon

So I want to build a stand for my 50 gallon, how do I get started?

How's your carpentry skills? Are you looking for a basic stand or something more elaborate? I would start with kiln dried 2x4's for the frame. Is your tank glass or acrylic?

It's glass, my carpentry skills are, well, I knocked down a wall and made a new room the size of a bathroom for washing clothes from scratch, and made a metal sheet roof for my cars, are those enough skills?

How custom do you want? A stand for this size thank (assuming 48x12 inches) is relatively inexpensive whether it is metal or wood? I have a Brooklyn series from Petco for my 55, and it is a very nice strong stand that can be had for around $70 when you watch the sales.

If you were a master carpenter, you wouldn't be asking this question. Just remember time is money too.
