Maybe a dumb question. if I used a large food grade "plastic" storage container for water would a heater melt the plastic?

I use a 39 gallon plastic barrel to do water changes. You could use a heater with it. Why do you need to store water?

I have to use a PUR water filter that attaches to my faucet it gives me a 7.4 ph. It also takes 5 minutes to fill a 2 gallon bucket and a long time to get the right temp. I have a bad back so I was planning on using a pond pump in a container of water to refill after a wc. I can add water slowly to a large container over time.
My tap water alone has a Ph at 8.5 at least.

I use a heater sometimes in my water I am prepping. I put it inside a heavy glass pedestal bowl. I run the pond pump in the water to keep it moving and the heat consistent. I’m using a 20 gallon foodsafe bin to prep.

Are you keeping and breeding rare fish? if you're keeping a basic tank with fish from the pet store, like most of us, then a pH of 8.5 isn't bad. Your pet store is likely keeping their fish in the same water you have. Of course if you're keeping fish that require a specialist, then I see your point.

The heater should not melt the plastic unless it malfunctions..
The water is only 70-80 degrees.. Hard to melt plastic at that..
My heaters sit on bottom of my Brute cans but they are thicker than bins.
I have my Brutes on the dolly for them so if I can I roll 30 g around...
They make 10 and 22 gallon brutes also.

I use big brute cans, heater, air stone, small power head and a pond pump makes fast wc's a breeze!!
