What's the exact name of the plexiglass-type-material that acts as a clear divider between the bulbs and water on most prefab compact/metal halide fixtures? Thanks!!

Tankgirl, most of the newer prefabricated fixtures use this material instead of tempered glass because it is very hard to break and is also much lighter.

With regards to lexan being the material, that is a definite possibility. But, because I am doing a DIY project and my fixture will generate tons of heat, I want to be 100% sure. Is anyone absolutely positive that the material is in fact lexan?

Yes, I am going to install many vents and two large fans...but I still want to protect my fixtures from splashing/condensation...any advice?
