Stubborn brown algae

I am having a problem cleaning the hard, stubborn brown algae off my acrylic aquarium. I have tried the acrylic foam algae removers but they don't work and will not scrape off the hard brown algae, no matter how much I rub back and forth. Is there some way I can removed this hard algae without scratching the acrylic? Anyone else have this problem?

Hmm, acrylic can sometimes be tough to clean. Is this a SW or FW tank?

The tank is freshwater with a diatom filter which clears the green water but of course does not affect the algae growing on the acrylic.

They make those magnetic algae scrapers that are acrylic-safe. You might give one of those a try. I have used several of them and they seem to work very well.
