Substrate Heating Cables?

I'm very interested in adding buried heat to my 16G bowfront in an effort to reduce visual clutter. It seems like they aren't very popular, and about the only information I can find is the listings on Amazon. The Hydors look nice, but are pricey.

Is there a reason this isn't a more popular way to heat?
Are there other brands or methods I should be considering?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I don't know how warm these would get but I would be concerned about the heat being too hot for bottom fish. I would think that it would have to be too hot for their comfort so it could heat all the water.
