Sump out of a 10 Gallon Tank

What would be involved in turning a normal 10 gallon tank into a sump filter for our 55 gallon? I have everything figured out up to the 10 gallon tank. In other words, I know how to get the water there, but I just don't know what all I need to do to the 10 gallon.

Not sure if we will actually do it, but we just have this tank we would like to pit to use and then is just one idea.
