Sump return pump

I am looking at return pumps for my 210 gallon freshwater with a 60 gallon sump. I was thinking that I need around 2500 GPH of flow for a turnover rate of around 9 times an hour. Anyway, a little giant pump is around $200.00. I was looking on Amazon, and came across an idea that I thought may work. Has anyone thought of using a pump off of an Intex pool or similar? I can get a brand new one off Amazon for around $60.00. Would this work? Also, I could use the cartridge filter section of the pump for my mechanical filter media. What are your thoughts?
