For me, I'd spend a few extra bucks and get a name brand. Although the basic operation of a canister filter is str8 forward, my worry would be replacement parts if/when something breaks.

I was looking for my old Fluval 404 dealer on Ebay. Just a few months ago they were $85 shipped bit now... OUCH.. Looks like prices are up a bit in this bad economy. Not sure how many of them passed their econ and finance classes but yousa !

Like I said, brand name. even used preferred.
