No, if you use a 250 watt bulb, you need a 250 watt ballast

if you use a 400 watt bulb, you need a 400 watt ballast.

Fortunately there isn't that much of a price difference between 250 and 400.

If you go with the 400w watch out for the heat. you may need a fan at least or a chiller at most.

Agreed. I would recommend a fan either way, with the 250 or the 400, but with the 400 definitely.
