Tank size vs measurement

I'm looking at buying a tank size as follows.. Length 120cm width 44cm height 59cm. But it says it's 260 litres . When I do the tank calculation it's telling me the tank holds 280-300l (depending on the water level I guess) the filter is a external canister. So just wondering does anyone know what the difference is? Ta

dont forget thats the external size internal will slightly smaller and its the water level they recommend (filter wont take anymore and water damage you cant brim a tank)

Righto so when they say 260 Litre means that's the Max it should be holding, cheers for that

bingo also when you put stuff in like rocks, fish, gravel, heater etc etc all this will displace water (like when you get in a bath it will rise)
