Top fin powerhead intake

I just bought a top fin powerhead 50 to add water flow on one side of my tank. Also to make the water surface move without really disturbing the surface because of the bio-film. My question is:

If the intake sucks in debris, would that damage the powerhead? Do i need to put some sort of sponge to protect it or is it going to just spit it back out? Thanks.

Sucking in debris really shouldn't hurt it in any way. If you are worried you can put a sponge or something on it but I don't think it is needed.
