Under gravel jets?

I have kept freshwater aquariums for years, mostly African Cichlids. In my cichlid tanks, one thing I had constructed was an under gravel jet system. They are used for water circulation.

The link gives a better description of it.

Has anyone ever used one of these in a SW tank?

I was thinking it might be a good way increase and/or customize water flow within my tank while limiting excess equipment in the tank. In my cichlid tanks I hid the pump(s) behind and under my aquascaping (rocks, driftwood, etc.

What are your thoughts?

Trust me, you dont want to put an UG filter in a SW tank. I dont remember exactly why, but I know its a cardinal rule. My guess is it would become a nitrate factory.

I am not sure how this would be a nitrate factory. It's not an undergravel filter.

It is very similar in concept to a close loop with plumbing that runs under the substrate that can be designed to put "jets" for water flow anywhere you want them.
