Use of a protein skimmer

I have a 50 gallon SWT with 3 Damsels, 2 Clarkii Clowns, about 15 Red Leg Hermit crabs, the same in snails, 1 anenome, and 1 Cleaner Shrimp. I have a Coralife 65 skimmer hanging on it. Live Rock and sand. Also a cannister filter good for 65. How often should I run it, all the time, part time, or what? Also, why?

I run my skimmers all the time.

I would really like more than just one response to my question. Only one doesn't reall help at all. Please give me some feedback, as I am new to salt water fish. Thankyou, Larry
