VHO Bulb Question and Best Online Store..

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of putting together my new 100gal 5ft tank.
Due to the tank specifics.. Being a all in one tank with enclosed hood etc. I am unable to get MH, and also my parents arent too happy with something hanging off the roof!!

So I'm wanting to get VHO bulbs, so that can increase the diversity of corals I can have.

Im just wondering what is the best online store to purchase from, that ships to OZ?

I cant find nothing around my local of Sydney!!!!

Oh one more thing, can VHO's be used on their own or do generally have to be accompanied with MH's?

For your first question, yes you can have just VHO lights for your tank and alot of people have this setup. People also use VHO actinic lights to supplement their MH lighting. The type of corals you plan on keeping should tell you what type of lighting is best for you. I personally have 4 x 110 watt VHO lights over my 90 gallon.

I also have 4x110 VHO supplemented with 50/50 PC as shown in my sig.

I can get just about anything.

my bulbs have two pins.. i've noticed that the pin arrangement in the US differs or am i just looking in the wrong place?

now i've just realised i need a different ballast for NO than VHO, how can i tell that my current ballast is rated for VHo or not?

Your hood that the bulb sits in will probably say "40w max"... as most NO hoods are.

You'll need a ballast for VHO - unless you go with a more expensive all-in-one deal like these: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=PF5323 This comes with hood and the ballast (minus the self-wiring, and no bulbs).
