Got a WAL-MART special 29 Gallon setup and enjoy it. I bought the larger 40-60 Aqua Tech HOB (to give the original, 20-40, to my daughter for her 20gal and we could buy just one type of cartridge for both) and realized later it was a poor design.

Anyway, added a sponge type filter to the inlet and put a sponge downstream of the only cartridge inside the HOB.

Do you think this will be good enough filtration, enough bio material to make it worthwhile :? ? After a month, and a bio-spira cycle, everything remains in spec and going good....

just put a sponge in the filter along wioth some filter floss. The sponge will maintain the bacteria and the floss will filter particles. FYI Aqua-tech is made by Marineland.

I personally like aquatech. Its cheap, works very well in my 20 gal. i have the 20-40 gallon filter in my 20 gallon tank
