Does the 03 Actinic wattage count towards the Watts per gallon calculation? I would think that the 03 wouldn't count as much as say 10k bulbs. JAT

Hijacked another thread with this ?? and didn't get much response, well deserved I guess.

The whole watt per gal figure is somewhat debated to begin with. Overall I would say yes to include them. Remember our eyes are not overly sensitive to that spectrum range but the corals and their zoothanthie (I really buchered that spelling) will have more sensitivty to this range.

For saltwater, I agree with fishfreek, that 03 lighting counts for total wpg.
For freshwater planted tanks, the 03 lighting doesn't count. I just wanted to toss that in there, since a lot of people new to planted tanks get duped into 50/50 bulbs by their LFS, who simply wants to move inventory.

Thanks for that little tid-bit malkore.

Looks like then I will have 5 1/2 WPG to start off with, at least in the center of the tank anyways. Will be adding another 250W MH after the holidays.

Thanks both of ya
