What is recommend GPH

I have a 100 gallon that I am building a sump for. What should the minimum GPH be as far as staying clean and pump. I've always heard you want to cycle your water 4-6 times an hour? Thanks.
FYI: tank is fresh water with about 20 3-4" cichlids

are you talking filter gph or in the tank gph? I always figure at least 6-8 times for filters with in the tank i go off of power heads

I meant water passing through the filtration.

I have a 46 g pump with a 300 GPH can. Plus a50 g hob on the tank. Gets it done.
