What is the benefit of an airstone

The subject pretty much covers it. What is the benefit of an airstone?!!!

Hello again neon...

In a standard aquarium, there's no benefit to using an air stone, unless you like the tiny bubble effect. There is a benefit to using one if you have land plants emersed in an aquarium.
