what media for hob filter

I was given an aquatech hob filter but it doesnt have the bio media. What can i put in there or should i just go get it. I was thinking of shoving some pot scrubbies in there. Do u think it will work

Pot scrubbers would work, you just want some source of mechanical media to prevent bio media clogging...
