Go for a 3/4 of an inch drain with a half inch return. I like the titanium velocity pumps. They heat up the tank a bit more than normal, but they run absolutly silent. You can get them from marine depot, they call them posidons.

I believe the ones on my 125 gal w/2 overflows are 1" for the drain and a 3/4" return. there are 2 (one overflow on each side) and it works well!

since this will be my first tank with a sump im gonna go with 1 overflow and 1 return as far as the size for the hole will a larger hole make it quieter or just drain faster?
since the tank will be in the main part of the house it would be nice to be quiet

1" drain and size teh return line based on the pump your going to use. Also make sure your tanks not tempered on the bottom. If it is then you will have to relocate your holes to the back.

IMO on a 150 your going to want more flow then a 3/4 return can give. I have 2 1-3/4 holes with bulk heads in the upper corners with a hang on return. I believe there 1 1/2 return bulkheads. You can drill another hole for the return also.
Is the bottom tempered glass? Make sure its not before you drill.
Make sure the sump is large enough to hold all the drain back. There are ways to make them quiet if you get the gurgle(sp)
I would research on the flow rate before you settle on one hole that small.
