Recently my jebo/odyssey canister filter started making a really loud humming noise, took it to my LFS and they noticed the impeller was broken. Replaced impeller, still really loud so I decided to get a Cascade 1000.

My question is, is there any uses for an old, somewhat working but really loud and leaking canister filter? It still has suction and a good output flow but it's loud AF and leaks.

I'd hate to throw it in the trash if it's partially working, especially spent 25 bucks on a new impeller. What does everyone else do with their old canister filters?

Check the impeller shaft?

+1 it's usually the shaft and/or the bushings it seats into that make noise.

As far as the leak, make sure that you lubricate the O-rings whenever removing the top. Vaseline will work, I find silicone is even better.

The shaft is the long thin stick right?
What does the bushing look like?

As for the O ring I lubed it up with Vaseline and it's still leaking, I'll look for a new O ring. I suppose I can save this filter for a hospital tank
