Where to buy black sand?

I just picked up a ac70 filter system for my 29g aquarium project becuase I want sand in my freshwater setup.

Anyone know where I could find some black sand? And how much I would need.

Thanks

Something like this.

CaribSea Inc Super Naturals Tahitian Moon Sand 20 Pounds - 821

20-30 pounds should be all you need. You do not want marine sand as it will harden your water.

FWIW, I've used Tahitian black moon sand before and hated it. It is very fine and easily sucked up by a gravel vac or filter. It also shows waste very bad.

I am using black blasting sand in #20 grit (same as PFS) and it sell for about $7.50 for 50lbs. I don't know if I would use it with an AC filter without a prefilter.

I have TMS in all but one tank, MFD is correct about being fine and I do lose around a tablespoon per water change. But IMO nothing brings out the color of fish like black substrate.

BigJim used black blasting sand and I think he had good luck with it. I use PFS with my AC HOB filters and don't have any issues because it settles right back down. The light weight (small grain?) sand would be a problem IMO.

So the ac70 isn't enough? I need more? What do I need?

For a 29g? It's more than enough IMO/E.

I like to have 2 filters running (ie 2xAC50) so if I need to setup a QT, clean or repair one, I have one always in the tank doing it's job.
