I just picked up a ac70 filter system for my 29g aquarium project becuase I want sand in my freshwater setup.

Anyone know where I could find some black sand? And how much I would need.

Thanks

FWIW, I've used Tahitian black moon sand before and hated it. It is very fine and easily sucked up by a gravel vac or filter. It also shows waste very bad.

I am using black blasting sand in #20 grit (same as PFS) and it sell for about $7.50 for 50lbs. I don't know if I would use it with an AC filter without a prefilter.

BigJim used black blasting sand and I think he had good luck with it. I use PFS with my AC HOB filters and don't have any issues because it settles right back down. The light weight (small grain?) sand would be a problem IMO.

For a 29g? It's more than enough IMO/E.

I like to have 2 filters running (ie 2xAC50) so if I need to setup a QT, clean or repair one, I have one always in the tank doing it's job.
