Looking through all the threads regaring filters, I seem to find most people favor the canisters (especially in planted tanks like I will have), but can't find a clear favorite. I guess I was leaning towards an Eheim 2217 because of the $130 price I found. Is that a good choice, or can I do better with something else for around the price or cheaper?

I am very fond the Rena XP series. They are efficient and easy to use. The price is great also. I would highly recommend them. I am currently running a XP1, a XP3 and two XP4s.

For a 50 gallon I would suggest a XP3.

I have a 55 and went against the recommendation of a XP3 and got an XP2. I wish I would have listened and got an XP3.... Live and learn I guess!

Great filter, just poor flow for the volume IMO.

I have a Marineland magnum 350 for my 55 gallon tank. I think for the next tank I will get a Fluval 405

I'm using an XP2 succesfully on a 46 bowfront.
It's got enough flow to keep the water polished.

I am soon going to get a eheim 2232 for my 55. At least that's what my fish guy said to get. Any opinions?
