Which protein skimmer to go with?

I'm looking for the best fit for a skimmer to use on a well established 125 FOWLR tank. This is for a friend/customer of mine whose tank has, unbelievably, never had a skimmer running in it. Needless to say his tank is a mess. He has a 30g Oceanic sump and doesn't want to spend too much. I told him it's the #1 piece of equipment not to skimp on.

LFS only carries Coralife SS 125 and 220 which I have not heard too many good things about, and Marineland 300 which I've heard isn't too bad, but I'm guessing I could find a higher quality skimmer for less online, though there are way too many to choose from. Trying to stay under $300, under $200 if possible.

Need help!

Thanks!

Reef octopus would be best for that price range. Good skimmers from what I have heard. Many people have them and love them. Try the needle wheel models, but make sure the dimensions on the one you choose will fit into the sump and under the stand.

I agree with the Octopus choice. Great skimmer for the price. This 1 would work great on your system and is well under $300.

I was actually going to suggest to him the 150, his bio load isn't that big, he just hasn't maintained it well. He's got a dog-faced puffer, about 6-8 inches long, 3 Sergeant Majors about 2-3 inches and 1 Yellow Tang about 4 inches.

The sump space might not allow for the 200 also. I'll have to check that tomorrow.
