Darin, need suggestion for skimmer upgrade
Hey, I'm replacing the chintzy wet/dry and rio-protein skimmer set up on my 58 [acronym:d8395d2980="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:d8395d2980] with a 2o [acronym:d8395d2980="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:d8395d2980] sump/refugium, any suggestions on a decent but below $250.00 skimmer? should I upgrade the rio return pump or leave as is?

check out the ASM G1 Skimmer. That will definately skim your 58 good. How big of a foot print do you have to work with?
I like the mag drives over the rios for return pumps; they are more durable and reliable. If you clean the rio every month it should be fine. Just do not neglect cleaning it!!

8x10" no problem, in the sump, but the opening at the top is only 5" wide by some odd 20" long. So it would have to squeeze through the top to fit. Currently I've got what looks like a Sealife Systems 100 skimmer on it, or at least whatever SS skimmer comes with the 100 series sump/wet/dry filter. It does take out some stuff, but I'd not mind having a little more. Just in case I ditch this aquarium and pick up something more in the 75g-100g range.

go with a ASM G1X it will handle a tank up to 125 with ease. The pump is detachable so both pieces could fit through the opening seperatley. The skimmer it self is only 5" in diameter.
