Aside from purchasing a new filter I'm fully stocked and waiting to watch my java fern slowly take over!

Equipment

50w hydor heater kept at 79
Aquaeon 30g quiet flow running ammonia remover, carbon, and housing a sponge
Air pump
1 18w t8 strip
1 15w (?) t8 strip (pulled from a 10g hood)

Live stock

5 tiger barbs
6 albino tiger barbs
5 green tiger barbs

Plants

Tons of java fern
Some anarchis
Some java moss

Maintenance

Usually change 8g of water every day or every other day. Daily glass scrubbing, gravel bad. Feed marine pellets twice a day, clean the filter every three weeks.

Excuse the bad pictures moved some things around and it clouded the water. Also crappy iPhone camera.

Your 29 G Tank

Hello ulti...

You have a nice tank. Good idea to get a larger filter. Something with a gph (gallons per hour) rating close to 6 times the volume of your tank or at minimum 180 gph. Hagen has a good brand. Get an AquaClear 50 and you'll have plenty of filtration.

The air pump and airstone aren't necessary. They do little for the tank. But, if you like the bubble effect, then it's not bad to have one.

You can back off the water changes. All you need to do to keep the water chemistry stable is to change out half the tank water every 7 to 10 days. Just change it out with pure, treated tap water. This will save you some work.

Just a couple of thoughts.
