Finally! 50g tank.

I have been "in the process" of setting up this darn fish tank for nearly two years! Due to various life things, moving houses, et al, it's just gotten put off further and further. BUT! Now it's finally happening. I have finalised my stocking list (loaches, catfish and rainbows), stained the cabinet, bought the gravel and soaked the driftwood. Now, it's all set up, filled, and ready to go! It's still looking a little cloudy due to the plant substrate we used under the gravel, but here she is! I will post more pics as I add plants and fish

Looks really good. Is that an airstone under the stump in the corner? That is exactly how I have mine set up also I always get compliments on it as I am sure your going to exspecially with real drift wood. Mine is a poly resin. There is not a scrap of good driftwood in this town. But amazing tank you ought to be proud of that. Can't wait to see it stocked.

nope, no airstone, though i have considered putting a few under the gravel in various places for effect.

i am in love with my driftwood, glad you all like it too!

I guess it is the bubbles on the glass then that looked like an airstone. You could set up one under the stump looks pretty cool here is a pic of mine, the bubbles come out from under every root and It really adds a neat effect to the tank.

This is with a volcano airstone I think it was a 4 inch, not very many bubbles.

and here is with a 6 inch ceramic wand airstone, with the same air pump I might add it makes a world of a difference.

It doesn't really compare to your tanks real driftwood, but I like it. Those pieces of dritwood are really nice. Good luck with the tank and deff post some pics when it is all set up with fish.

I hope you don't mind I saved a pic of your tank to email my girlfriend, so she could see your tank. I was telling her all about it.

stage 1 of plants has been added! the crypts on the left were purchased, and the ferny things i had in a little 1gal-ish tank sitting in my kitchen (leftover from a betta a long time ago). i separated out all the new plants it had borne and planted them around, and it looks really natural the tank it was in previously obviously wasn't set up for plants, and never got lit, so those guys need a little bit of love to get beautiful again.

anyone know what they are, incidentally? i'm actually not sure they're technically aquatic plants, as they reproduce by growing mini plants from leaves that are in contact with the surface. i'm sure they're a type of fern, and one that is slow-growing, needs very little light or nutrient to stay alive!
