Hey Patrick, nice tank. Just one suggestion, if I may. I would lower your thermometer to about an inch above the substrate. It will give you a true reading of the tank's temperature....

And I would goto lowes and buy the mini cfl 6500k bulbs they sell. They will make your tank look brighter!

Will it kill my fish from the heat of the lights?

No. The cfl bulbs actually dont get as hot. The 6500k has a white look the normal bulbs have a yellow look
