Ok. The tank is cycled (fish-less with ammonia), decorated and ready to go. Tried to achieve a river theme. Eventually i will put in a couple of Tiger Oscars a Plycostomus and one other large fish yet to be determined. For now I will test my cycling with something smaller (which I'll transfer to my community tank later). Going to lfs after work. Yippee!!!

Looks good. Lots of room for the fish to swim around! Have you considered aquatic plants at all? I think a few in there would look great.

I keep hearing Oscars are pretty rough on plants, so I'm not sure if I should try it or not.

Anubias would be your best option. They have thick leaves that oscars shouldn't be able to destroy.

I'd say to get a lot of driftwood and rock and attach some type of moss (whichever type you prefer) and lots of anubias all lowlight easy to take care and durable with the Oscar

You could by some tough potted plants and bury the pots in the gravel as well, if you wanted some variety.

As to the undetermined large fish to live with your Oscars I vote Electric blue Jack Dempsey. they look awesome together !!

Some oscars are good with plants some aren't. I had one in a planted 75 then I added another one I rescued from my lfs, they were gona put him down he's about 6in. As soon as he entered the water he began swimming around ripping my plants up so it's really a toss up. Some can live happily with plants some not so much. I'd start with one or 2 plants and see what happens. Also +1 on the jd they get along great with oscars usually.
