Have you seen Ponyo? So lovely. There's a good amount of the movie with the city underwater, and it otherwise is just beautiful.

This is the harbour that I would like to scape-

With the sea in front and land in back. This is a sketch-

I have black eco complete, and, since the ocean shelf is sand, I think I think I would actually want to split the substrate.

I'm probably being overly ambitious. I'm trying to figure out how to balance my abilities with my vision.

I can't wait to see this completed! I love all of Hayao Miyazaki's films, especially Ponyo. I watched it many times with my siblings growing up, and when I have kids I intend to watch it with them, too. It's just such a wonderful film with gorgeous animation... sorry, I've gone on a little rant, but anyways, I am super excited that you're going to do this scape, and I bet it'll be beautiful. Best of luck! :)

Haven't seen the movie, but you can do anything and if it doesn't work the first time, change until it does or if no way to fix it, time for a new scape!!! People use all sorts of under sand/substrate dividers to keep things separated. I have been wanting to ad a "sandbox" in the front area of my big tank to give the corries a really fun place to play in soft sand.

I'm building the shore with stoneware, since that's my wheelhouse. Here's my guide. It's big because this particular clay shrinks 17% when fired.

According to my shrink ruler, this will be just about three inches high. That seems really high. I'm not sure if I should move forward with it.

Why is that? 3" substrate is fine...? If my guess is correct, if it doesn't work, you can make another one a little shorter???
True. Just considering that the tank is 12" deep, this divider would be a quarter of the way high? I can always make a shorter one, but I'm eager to get this together. I usually only fire one bisque and one glaze per month, so that would mean waiting a long time. Or just making two to begin with. Hmm.

Make 2 sell one, heck make 3 sell 2... ;)

This new build deserves its own thread.
