Where should I keep my 20 gallon tank?

Hi, I'm a beginner, and I just purchased a 20 gallon tank. I was planning to just put it on my bureau, until I realized just how much 20 gallons of water would weigh. The tank with the water inside would weigh something like 180 to 190 pounds. This is already more than I weigh, so I'm very worried about putting the tank anywhere. However, a 200 pound tank would also exert a lot less pressure than a 200 pound human.

Anyone who's owned a 20 gallon tank, have you ever kept it anywhere other than a specially made tank stand? If I really must, I'll get a stand. I don't particularly want to keep it on the floor.

Also, the bureau I was originally going to put it on looks something like this: http://www.bissellwoodworking.com/ca...bureau-500.jpg

alot of night stands are adequately built and could support it (at least mine is), a stand designed for the tank would be the best option, but you could make one if you have the tools and supplies pretty cheap... as long as it is strong enough to support the weight, is level, and will allow the full bottom of the tank to sit on it, it will be fine

I have mine on a very sturdy coffee table type table, its made of 2x4s so its very sturdy, and level on the floor.
I dont suggest putting the tank on your dresser, as it might put pressure on the drawers as well, and there could be one loose screw, leaving your clothes sopping wet!!!
just my two cents..

Our 20g is on the bookshelf - which is made of solid wood. I would be more concered about pressed wood or laminated bartical board.

Hey,

Honestly you can put tanks on anything that has a frame and sturdy wood. I've built a double 55G stand myself and there is nothing to it. Just test out the thing before like putting your own body weight on it and force it down and test pressure and such.

You should be fine though, that thing looks like it would be able to fit a tank across on whole thing, let alone a 20G.

i have a 20gal long setting on a ceder chest ben there 4 a few years i think as long as the the top is solid wood and not partical board u should be just fine. one way to check is put it on there fill it half way and try all ur drawrs and if they all still slid in and out try filling it all the way up and test again. keep an eye on it if it does begin to bind the drawrs gona have to try another place if you have room you could put it on ur kitcken counter
