Hello everyone and welcome to the build. I'm sure some have read the title and are asking themselves what is he talking about. So before we go any further heres the back story. It was time for my upgrade and a buddy gave me his 180g RR tank. I cleaned it all up and built my stand put it in the house and filled it up. Next day I cracked the back glass(my fault overlooked the space behind tank and a pipe hit the wall). Yay thats the end of that tank. Wife told me im not buying another tank atleast for a year so I got her to agree to this scratched up 125 that a buddy had and I picked it up and set it up. Since there's no chance for an upgrade atm im just making this tank work. Also have a dedicated "fish room" thats a storage area/sump pump area under the stairs

I wish my in between tanks could be large enough for more than 1 tang...
Is there any repositioning you can do with the powerheads? Those low flow areas where the cyano is building up could be a pain down the road.
Are the zoas all the same in the system?

Well the cyano isn't from low flow. The middle shelf rock has 4 powerheads pointing at it all on 100% which is around which is suppose to be 10500 gph. It also has 2 of the 4 nozzles from the return pump at 100% pointed at it which should be 1500gph but after head loss id say 1000gph. So in reality there should be no cyano on this rock. Alot of guys in the Chicago area have been having this same issue with cyano and brown snotty bacteria. I really think mine was caused from poor maintenance and neglect from the warmer months. As soon as i started running gfo and carbon again and doing water changes it's started to fade away.

The zoas are not all the same heres a better picture to show different ones. Think there's 10-15 different kinds

You are right about cyano coming from nutrients in the water column, but it also thrives in lower flow zones. I have some cyano in my tank as well, which is impressive from a 55 run off of 2 MP40's, but you can't hit everything.
As for the zoas, that looks really nice. Floating through all the pictures it was hard to see them all.

No i totally agree that it comes from lower flow areas just hard to understand how I have low flow on 1 side but not the other especially since the cyano side is more open rock work for the flow to move through. Oh well it's receding so im happy. May throw a rw4 from the sump into that corner.

I may add some pictures from my other build threads to show the tank when it first got set up and maybe even previous tanks

have you tried to lower your power head it seemed to help in my 90g , I put 2 about 1/2 way down to add flow to the bottom of the tank also have 2 up top doing a kriss cross circulating the top

Yeah i just moved the one on the left side where the cyano is lower and put it on the back wall. Also removed a ton of cyano so we will see how it does

Well had a buddy shutting down his tank so I bought his fish and he gave me a ton of coral.
Mounted almost everything heres a few pics

What all fish did you get? Some pretty solid looking SPS corals.
Ruby head fairy wrasse
Tailspot blenny
Midas blenny
2 Bartlett anthias

Already have:
Blonde naso tang
Yellow eye kole tang
Orange shoulder tang
Sailfin tang
Blue spotted rabbitfish
2 Blue green chromis
2 Pajama Cardinals
1 percula clown

I think I got them all

Decided I was going to make my own fish food Thursday night so picked up some clams and whole shrimp. Took the shell off the shrimp and threw everything in the food processor. Fed the tank alittle and they ate everything pretty quickly. Heres some pictures

Looks good. People who make their own food really swear by it. Hope it works out well for you.
Well the reaction from my fish was crazy, so that already makes it worth it for me. Doesn't hurt it only cost me $16 to make that 1 gallon bag

I'm also going to work on getting a black worm system started so I can feed the fish live black worm. Just doing what I can to boost my fishes immune system

The fish look great!
Corals are awesome too.
I feed my clowns black worms and they love it, also they seem just generally better than when I fed them dry food.
