Hey guys! I figured I'd get a thread going on my 120g SPS dominated reef. This tank has been set up since December 2104, so it's still a young tank at this point, which equals an oversized frag tank. :/ This system is supposed to be a "turn key" type of system, meaning it came with the tank, stand, sump, and a bunch of equipment. I'll list everything below and note what came with the system.

So here's the stats:

Red Sea Max S-500 120g system
15g glass sump/refugium (included) containing 2 species of Caulerpa
Red Sea C-Skim 1800 skimmer (included)
1850gph Red Sea return pump (included)
3x 570gph pumps creating a closed loop on the back wall (included)
2x Maxspect XF150 Gyres
2x Tunze 6025's (modded for increased flow)
10-bulb T5HO lighting (included)
Coast to coast overflow with full siphon drain (included)
7g gravity fed ATO (included)
BRS dual media reactor for Carbon and GFO
Bubble Magus 3-head dosing pump for Alk/Ca/Mg
Integrated power control center (included)
Apex Controller

I run a hybrid system of sorts, running some of the equipment through the Apex, and some of the equipment through the integrated power control center. I have to say, this system really brings an ease of maintenance to the hobby that I never had with other systems, basically just the ideal creature comforts. That said, I still love to build systems from the ground up, and my GF's 40b is evidence of that.

I have a bunch of fish in this system, but all are extremely small, and were picked based off their fully matured size. There are only a few fish that will reach a max size of over 4", and my goal was to get the tank into scale by picking smaller fish.

Alright, on to livestock:

Fish
Pair Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses (Spawning regularly)
Pair Melanarus Wrasses (Spawning regularly)
Pair Maine Mocha Clowns (first clutch of eggs laid yesterday)
Pair Zebra Barred Dartfish (appear to be spawning in the last month)
Pair of Rainford's Gobies
Trio of Blue Reef Chromis
Yellow Coris Wrasse
Flame Hawkfish
Yellow Eye Kole Tang
Potter's Angelfish
Geometric Pygmy Hawkfish (I see him about once a month lol)
Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse
Green Mandarin (eating frozen)
Ruby Red Dragonet (eating frozen)
Sailfin Blenny--was supposed to be a starry, I received a lawnmower :banghead:

Coral
Primarily this is an acro tank through and through. Aside from acros, there are a handful of montis, chalices, Z&P's, and acans.

Thanks for looking, and pics coming shortly....

Would really like a picture of this tank it sounds awesome I just don't like Red Sea because of there prices.

I'm setting up a 55 gallon reef tank and I hope my tank will look as good as that does :)

Just do your due diligence prior to setting it up by studying up on forums just like this one. They are an invaluable resource to reefers of all experience levels!

That said, you guys are way too kind. :thanks:

Nice set up!
I have only ever heard of one other with the red sea c skim 1800 protein skimmer.
I have 2.;)
Looks like you got it dialed in....
Your tank an inhabitants look to be doing very well!(y)

Things are going well! I can say that skimmer is the only skimmer I have owned that never needed an official break in period. It skims as well today, as it did the day I plugged it in.

Thanks! Are you local to the Maryland Virginia area? Member of WAMAS possibly? Your screen name looks awfully familiar...

How do you like that tank. I looked at them before but they are pricey. They looked pretty nice and well built though.

They are pretty pricey, but I was able to recoup some of that cost by selling a good chunk of my equipment off from my previous tank. Also, if you look around, there are deals out there on these things, just not from the bigger stores.

That said, I love this tank. Super easy to work on, and an ideal size! There is about 5 hours of build time on this system though. All things considered, that isn't too bad.
