My 40 gallon salt water coral tank

First off I love this site! I snooped around for the past month and just joined.

Six months ago I knew nothing about salt water tanks, and then I was offered a free aquarium (from a real-estate office that couldn't keep anything alive in it).
I figured my passion is animals and gardening so this should be up my alley.


This is what it looked like when it arrived


This is it after three months (I then decided I loved corals and added a protein skimmer)


And here is a current picture

I love this hobby, and in 9 months (when we make our last move) I am going to be getting a larger tank, I was thinking 100 or 150 gallons.

I love seeing everyone's tank, questions, and advice on this site.
Feel free to give me any advice or thoughts on my tank

Tank looks awesome! Only thing I would add is a background.

Have you ever considered getting some sps. If you filled the lop of the rocks and moved your Softies down that'd look amazing. Unless you don't like sps lol. Tank does look great already though lol

I was thinking about putting a background up I just don't know what my best route would be. Any suggestions?
And I think I'm gonna slowly start moving some of my soft corals down lower

Looks good. My background is just a plain black one and is slowly turning purple with coraline algae.

I had a black background on my 55 reef. I hated it. Continuing to go with nothing on the back of both of my tanks. I might be easily influenced if I ever paint the back of a tank though.

I think that the black painted background looks very sharp on SW tanks. Very impressive tank!

Got some new fish at the store this week



Turned that mushroom rock over so they can use it as a cave



My watchman isn't new but he wanted his picture tank lol

Awesome tank! I'd paint the back glass black, it makes it look really nice. IMO

I agree. The black backdrop will make sure the colors pop in the tank

I did it put a black backdrop on the tank it does make all the colors pop



Also got a few new corals but they aren't doing all well as I would hope;



I popped half of this guy transporting him from the FS



And this guy is starting to look glossy

Yes I never rush acclimation.
