but I have a feeling the goby wouldn't go for pairing up with it.

FWIW the Randal's goby I had paired up immediately w/ a tiger pistol shrimp. I added them both at same time. IME the Randal's tend to make better partners for pistol shrimp. Randal's gobys are more trusting of other fish, etc. and people than yellow watchmans IME. I think it would be ok.
