Bolbitis Q

I have bolbitis in my tank and it has developed black leaves. it doesn't look like its dying, but it has definitley changed color over the past week or so. is this normal or is it doomed? I would like to get some more, but maybe my tank is not suitable. The specimen I have right now is in a 29 [acronym:5b7c77f554="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:5b7c77f554] with low lighting and a [acronym:5b7c77f554="power head or Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions, depending on context"]PH[/acronym:5b7c77f554] of around 8, temp 78.
I read on your plant profile that hard water can cause black spots, would this plant be better in my lower [acronym:5b7c77f554="power head or Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions, depending on context"]ph[/acronym:5b7c77f554] tank(but the hardness is the same)? Or could it thrive in hard water?
Thanks for any info.

That's kinda weird because we have it for months in extremely hard water without that happening. Usually what happens with bolbitis is that you will see the old leaves darken but not turn black and the newer frond grow out with a bright green color as it adapts to the new water conditions that it's in. Make sure that you have it in a spot where it gets some water current. It doesn't seem to do well in relatively still water.

Those leaves are pretty much dead. Let me know if you do not get any new fronds from the rhizome.

Well, not so good. I had to trim off 2 of the leaves. The rhizome is black, but I do see a few little green sprigs. So, hopefully a good sign!
