I'm getting a 20 gl tank tank ready for angelfish eggs and I'm concerned about the beneficial bacteria. I have used Filter media to cycle the new tank I'm just not sure when it should go in. If I put it in the same time as the eggs I'm worried it will die off before the fry can start producing ammonia. Any thoughts on the matter?

A sponge filter is not necessary until the fry are free swimming. Until then, you are not feeding the fry and the fry are not producing any appreciable amount of ammonia. Once you start feeding the fry, just adding a sponge filter with a small amount of BB from an established filter should be more than enough because you will be doing daily water changes on the fry tank to remove any uneaten food.

Hope this helps. (y)
