When breeding betta do u find it more effective when the age difference of the male and female largely differs ?

NO. The only real difference is with the amount of eggs the female can be holding. The bigger the female, the more and larger the eggs will be. I prefer to breed larger females for this reason. The fry then are also larger and easier to raise. That said, in order to breed a larger female, you need ( or should use actually) a larger male so she doesn't kill him.
I've bred sibling fish just 5 months old and have had high percentages hatches so it's really more about the breeding setup than the age of the fish. The more conducive for breeding, the better the success.

Hope this helps
