So I decided I want to try my hand at breeding a few types of fish. Here is my journey. First pic is when I came back from being out of state for 6 weeks. Over run with red strain guppies and it's a mess. Second pic is the start of my additions. Trying to be as economical and user friendly as possible here.

I bought new tanks for $1 per gallon and am using pool filter sand in the bottom two. Shelves from Menards rated for 3200 lbs total

Oh yeah so shelves were $54 and I bought 2 sets. Had to replace particle board it came with and that was in forget how much. Also adding more electric and it's all GCFI for safety.

Following as well! Had a fish room in our apartment as well as the last place we rented, not enough space to have one in this house.

Would love to see some pics of your guppies!

Sure. I've been at the doctors office for 2 hours now. (New doc and I'm pretty irritated ) so when or if I ever make it home again I'll get pics

I'm trying some new equipment. This filter is very similar to the Aquaclear 20 except that it has cartridges. I was able to add to the media chamber though. Half the cost of a new ac 20.

As promised guppies! These are half black yellows. Still young. So far so good. I have them at about 75 degrees and they're eating. No losses overnight. 3 pairs and I'm going to look at more and buy more plants now.

Nice colors! Are you planning anything other than guppies?

Ok so today I went to a breeder's house who live near me. I came home with bags and bags of plants, a male albino bristle nose pleco which I've been searching for, black Moscow guppies, cory habrosus, a couple hitch hiker shrimp and the best for last. ...two L333 plecos. Not sure of the sex of either but he didn't want to continue with them so I got them for a bargain if I took both. I'm going back another day to get albino corys and some sterbai corys to increase the stocks of what I already have. I was there 3 hours and learned so much about plants, plecos and livebearers. He has some really rare livebearers from Mexico and the Dominican Republic etc. I also did a naughty and have more fish coming from Aquabid. Weird black Venezuelan corys and what the breeder is called black Thai guppies. They look just like the black moscows and my lfs wanted someone to breed black guppies for them.

My father put in a lot of electric while I was gone. 4 new boxes each with 8 GCFI outlets, he added a new circuit to the breaker as well. Tomorrow I put together my other stand and go through equipment and see what I need etc. Now to go read about my new plecos

Are you breeding plecos as well?

I'm sure going to try with the albino bristle noses. If the L333 breed they do, if not whatever. They're really pretty so I don't care if they dont.

So my morning isn't going well for various reasons. No dead fish so that is a plus. Some jerk of a cat got on top the glass on my 20 long and broke the glass. There are jagged pieces now sitting at the bottom of my tank. No fish on that tank thankfully. Next up are some ta k shots with the new plants. Due to time constraints most are floating. So I'm adding a few pics of the new electric. Need 2 more boxes to replace what was there and some other parts. Once that is done the lights can be hung and a few need wired. Today is house hold shopping and errand day but I'm making a trip to the lfs. I need more air going on in my 55g. Also obviously need to get another lid for a 20 long. Might as well have set that $20 on fire because it lasted one day. Darn cats!

Dang, stinks about the cat incident. I built a cat proof lid for my breeding tanks, I can post a pic later tonight probably

That would be helpful. I'd like to see how you do things.

Here is a pic of one of the L333. The red area is a reflection. This fish has no red on it.

My new T5 double bulb light arrived today. Coralife. It's just ok. I bought some T5 shop lights at Menards and they were $20 for a 20 or 30 inch light and comes with the bulb. It does have to be attached to something and wired in or have a plug put on it but that's cheap.
