Not true they're have been many cases of breeders crossing barbs. Taking the female tiger and and the male rosy barbs crossed, only big issue is the offspring are sterile. I guess mother natures way of protecting itself.

i was thinking of trying to get my girlfriends butterfly molly and ballonbelly molly to mate what are the chances of making a ballonbelly butterfly molly haha

im not sure what a butterfly molly is but it's likely they are the same species. Balloon mollies are just selective bred for spinal deformity causing the balloon shape.
