I woke up this morning to find that there is a single black Molly fry swimming around in my tank. Where are the rest? Do mollies eat their fry if not removed from the tank? My tank has 1 sucker fish(sorry not the technical term) 3 Molly(1 male 2 females) 1 platy and 1 guppy. Any ideas?

Your Molly Fry Question

Good morning Don...

Yes, Livebearers will eat the fry. The best thing you can do to guarantee the survival of some of them is to start feeding your fish more often. I keep large tanks of Livebearers and when I see fry in the tank, which is typically every month, I start feeding all the fish more often. Several small meals a day will keep the adults full. It's been my experience that well fed adults seldom bother the fry.

You can also float some Water Sprite or Water Wisteria in the tank. Floating plants will give the female some privacy and the fry a place to hide.
