How long are they pregnant before giving a birth guys ?

Once they have fry twice, if you keep the temp. the same they usually tend to drop around every so-and-so days. (Like mine was three weeks and 2-4 days nearly every time.)

If you have a female that holds fry in longer than she should try raising the temp. a few degrees.

Hello K...

If the female doesn't like the conditions of the tank, she can hold the fry indefinitely. You should have a lot of floating plants in the tank. Water sprite and Anacharis (Brazilian water weed) are the best. Since Guppies spend most of their time feeding and living in the upper one-third of the tank, thick cover on the surface will make the female comfortable and secure.

If you're not changing half the water in the tank every week, then you should consider it. Large, frequent water changes maintain a healthy chemistry and pure water conditions are necessary for the survival of the fry.

When you change the water, make the new water a bit warmer. Females feel calmer in pure, warmer tank water.

Lastly, Livebearers prefer their water slightly brackish. So, next time you change the tank water, add a teaspoon of standard aquarium salt to every 5 gallons of the new water, no table salt though.

The salt mimics the natural living conditions of your Guppies and stimulates their immune system. Feed a good variety of frozen foods. Brine and Mysis shrimp should be at the top of your food list. Frozen bloodworms, beef heart, plankton and krill are very good too. I also feed a bit of minced garlic. It's very high in vitamins and is a natural antibiotic. A healthy fish will produce healthy young.

Just a couple of thoughts.

A guppy'sgestationn period is 28 to 40 days. The more younger the guppy, the more longer it takes. The gravid spot gets bigger from time to time.Make sure the water quality stays good, and the water should be warm.
