Harliuqin rasboras breeding question

This evening I was watching my 29 gallon and noticed one of my Rasboras had a black dot coming out of it's rear end. I was wondering if it was just poop OR eggs. Whatever it was, a black skirt tetra gobbled it up ASAP. so, are they egg layers? Sorry I couldn't get a picture. And no, I can't tell which fish it was from. Thanks.
