I have a pair of Hemichromis bimaculatus and they have laid eggs twice now and they guard them like crazy for 2 days and then when I get home on the third day all the eggs are gone. I guess they are eating them.. Why would they do that?

Maybe they get tired from guarding them and give up, letting the other fish eat them? Or they have poor parenting skills.

They probably have poor parenting skills or the eggs aren't fertilized so they eat them.
